June 13, 2003

Lindsay Brown is the General Secretary for the IFES, the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students.

Dan Harrison has made a remarkable contribution to the ministry of IFES in the 1990's. It was always a great pleasure and joy both to know him, enjoy his friendship, and to be partners together in the gospel. I believe that God placed him in IVCF for a whole host of reasons, but from the perspective of IFES it is hard to imagine that the work in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan would have got off to such a fast start in 1990 and 1991 without his Godgiven drive.

I am taking time during my own recuperation from illness to write a book including stories of the way God has been working in IFES the last twenty years, and his contribution in the former Soviet Union will certainly be mentioned in that book. I remember well how he sent the first teams to Ukraine and Russia, as well as Kazakhstan, how people were converted on those teams, and how some of those same people are still contributing to the leadership of those movements, even today more than ten years later on. I am thankful to God for Dan giving leadership to us at that stage in buying up the opportunities for the cause of the gospel.

The work continues to go from strength to strength, particularly in Russia and Ukraine, with the work going on steadily in Kazakhstan. We held our first conference for students in the five Central Asian Republics just last August, attended by over 200. All that results in part from the work Dan set in motion in Kazakhstan, because it was the first country of the five -stan's in which we began work. Only eternity will reveal the number of students and graduates who will have come to faith through those ministries.

It was my special privilege and joy to work together in that unique moment in history when the Berlin Wall fell down and the gospel took root. I remain deeply grateful to God and thankful to Him without inhibition for Dan's friendship and partnership in the gospel.
