For more information, contact: Wathanga to read Stott’s address at Urbana 03 URBANA, ILLINOIS - December 24, 2003 – Dr. John Stott was admitted to the hospital four nights before Christmas. While there, his MRI scan revealed that he had had a minor stroke, which is now being investigated and evaluated. The doctors are optimistic for a reasonable recovery. He is now convalescing with relatives. Dr. Stott sends his greetings and special prayers for the Urbana convention. Jim Tebbe, Director of Urbana 03 says, "We are saddened that Dr. Stott will not be at Urbana and we also are praying for his health." Joshua Wathanga, Associate General Secretary & Chief Administrative Officer of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, will be reading Dr. Stott’s address on Radical Discipleship. Wathanga commented, "After prayerful consideration, I am happy to accept. It is a big responsibility and a big honor for me." Urbana 03 Program Director, Paula Harris, said "We believe this will be an appropriate tribute to Dr. Stott’s work and legacy." Wathanga has been responsible for the leadership of the International Office of the IFES based in Oxford, England since 1995. He has served as Associate General Secretary since 1999. He is from Kenya where he lived, studied and worked for many years. He holds a Masters degree from the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, an MBA in Economic Development from Eastern University. He and his wife, Gladys, have two sons. Since 1946, Urbana conventions have challenged women and men to share God’s love with people throughout the world. The event will be held December 27-31. The convention is sponsored by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA and co-hosted by Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship of Canada and Groupes Bibliques Universitaires et Collégiaux du Canada.
